Il soprannaturale nella letteratura lusofona e nel cinema

In this paper will be illustrated the basic characters of the fantastic. More in detail, the thesis is divided into two chapters: the first will provide the main definitions of the fantastic genre taking as a reference the essay The fantastic literature (Introduction à la littérature fantastique, 1970) by Tzvetan Todorov. Later, brief notes will be given on the historical origins of the genre, highlighting the fundamental role it has acquired over the centuries and describing the various categories of the fantastic and its relevance in literary theories. The second chapter will focus on the analysis of three works: A ilha no espaço (1964) by Osman Lins, As Intermitências da Morte (2005) by José Saramago and the film Meet Joe Black (1998) by Martin Brest, highlighting the constant themes and stylistic variations. In particular, he will deepen the peculiar theme of death (personified) that interrupts his work, a constant supernatural theme present in all three works.

In questo elaborato verranno illustrati i caratteri fondamentali del fantastico. Più in dettaglio, la tesi si articola in due capitoli: nel primo verranno fornite le principali definizioni del genere fantastico prendendo come riferimento il saggio La letteratura fantastica (Introduction à la littérature fantastique, 1970) di Tzvetan Todorov. In seguito, si daranno brevi cenni sulle origini storiche del genere, ponendo in evidenza il ruolo fondamentale che ha acquisito durante i secoli e descrivendo le varie categorie del fantastico e la sua rilevanza nelle teorie letterarie. Il secondo capitolo si focalizzerà sull’analisi di tre opere: A ilha no espaço (1964) di Osman Lins, As Intermitências da Morte (2005) di José Saramago e il film Meet Joe Black (1998) di Martin Brest, evidenziandone le costanti tematiche e le varianti stilistiche. In particolare, si approfondirà la peculiare tematica della morte (personificata) che interrompe il suo operato, una costante tematica soprannaturale presente in tutte e tre le opere.
