The scope of my final term paper is to highlight the events of 9/11 while discussing the meaning of the word “terrorism”, and how it has changed due to this tragic day. What I also find of great relevance is how the Muslim & Arab communities were affected by these attacks. How were they seen in the wake of 9/11, and how people started to treat them and behave around them? Was the whole world blinded by loss and thirst for revenge? Was America facing the aftermath of that terrible day in an honourable and respectful way, according to the families of the victims of the attacks? Everyone started to react in their own subjective way, but another major impactful event was the introduction of a new genre in the Hollywood movies sphere. People started to create art in order to cope with the pain, fear, and traumas that those events brought upon America. But what about the media? We got so alienated by what the journalists, government leaders, witnesses, etc. were saying that we didn’t know what to believe in and who to believe in anymore. Every day a different story, a new war, a new enemy, we had to face the fear of the unknown truth on a daily basis, till it got to a point where we just stayed still, hypnotized by all this without any sort of reaction from our side, paralyzed by this “psychological terrorism”.
