Adalbert Stifter, Brigitta: analisi e commento

The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze and comment on Adalbert Stifter’s novel Brigitta. It is a novel first published in 1842 and later in 1844, when Stifter added it to the collection of six volumes of the Studien. Brigitta represents one of the most important works and also the testimony of the stylistic passage of the author. The dissertation is divided into three chapters: in the first chapter there is an introduction to the author, his thought, the style that undergoes various changes over the years. In addition, there is also a brief description of the plot of Brigitta and the analysis of its structure. In the second chapter, on the other hand, the entire work is analyzed in more depth, reviewing the different passages and events told from a single point of view, that of the narrator. In the third and final chapter each character is described individually, emphasizing characteristics and personality. We also review the main and recurring themes and symbols within the story, analyzing its meaning and peculiarities. Finally, everything is concluded with a focus on the importance that Stifter wants to give to Brigitta in the context of the world of literature.

Lo scopo di questa dissertazione è quello di analizzare e commentare il racconto di Adalbert Stifter intitolato Brigitta. Si tratta di una novella pubblicata inizialmente nel 1842 e successivamente nel 1844, anno in cui Stifter la aggiunge alla raccolta di sei volumi delle Studien. Brigitta rappresenta una delle opere più importanti e anche la testimonianza del passaggio stilistico dell’autore. La dissertazione è articolata in tre capitoli: nel primo capitolo vi è un’introduzione all’autore, al suo pensiero, allo stile che subisce varie modifiche negli anni. Inoltre, vi è anche una breve descrizione della trama di Brigitta e l’analisi della sua struttura. Nel secondo capitolo, invece, viene analizzata in modo più approfondita l’intera opera passando in rassegna i diversi passaggi e avvenimenti raccontati da un unico punto di vista, cioè quello del narratore. Nel terzo ed ultimo capitolo viene descritto ogni personaggio individualmente, sottolineando caratteristiche e personalità. Vengono anche passati in rassegna i temi e i simboli principali e ricorrenti all’interno della storia, analizzandone il significato e le peculiarità. Infine, il tutto viene concluso con una focalizzazione sull’importanza che Stifter vuole dare a Brigitta nel contesto del mondo della letteratura.
