L'illusione ottica in alcune creazioni della Casa di Moda Missoni: assonanze e relazioni con l'Optical Art

The aim of this study is to show that fashion is an applied art in its own right and that in many cases it has been inspired by contemporary art movements and works. This study wanted to analyse the most important periods in modern fashion, those from the mid-19th century to the present day, and the changes that have taken place in the latter through its most renowned exponents and the artists who have used fashion as a new means of expression. The focus of my work was to analyse the Missoni fashion house, through its two founders, Ottavio and Rosita, in the path they took from its foundation to the present day, and the similarities that developed between their fashion and Optical Art, the Neoavantgarde movement that arose in the early 1960s. In their couture creations, I looked for and found similarities with Optical art works, comparing them with each other in terms of colours, shapes, but above all for the optical-abstract visual effects that Missoni fabric creates in the eye of the observer, just as it does with the works of Neoavantgarde artists. Through this analysis, I have shown how Ottavio Missoni was a fashion artist who used knitwear as a means of expression and artistic material, and I wanted to demonstrate how the relationships established between the fashion creations of designers and certain contemporary art movements have given rise to a process in which the observer can get to know both through this extraordinary connection.

Il presente elaborato ha come obbiettivo quello di mostrare che la moda è un’arte applicata a tutti gli effetti e che in molti casi ha subito l’ispirazione di movimenti ed opere d’Arte contemporanea. Questo studio ha voluto analizzare i periodi più importanti della moda moderna, quelli che vanno dalla metà dell’Ottocento fino ai giorni nostri e i cambiamenti che sono avvenuti in quest’ultima attraverso i suoi esponenti più rinomati e gli artisti che hanno utilizzato la moda come nuovo mezzo d’espressione. Fulcro del mio lavoro è stato analizzare la Casa di Moda Missoni, attraverso i suoi due fondatori, Ottavio e Rosita, nel percorso che hanno compiuto dalla fondazione fino ad oggi, e le analogie che si sono sviluppate tra la loro moda e l’Optical Art, movimento di Neoavanguardia sorto agli inizi degli anni Sessanta del secolo scorso. Nelle loro creazioni di moda ho cercato e riscontrato similitudini con le opere d’arte Optical, comparandole tra loro nei colori, nelle forme ma soprattutto per gli effetti visivi ottico-astratto che il tessuto Missoni crea nell’occhio dell’osservatore esattamente come avviene per le opere degli artisti della Neoavanguardia. Tramite tale analisi ho mostrato come Ottavio Missoni sia un artista della moda che ha utilizzato come mezzo espressivo e materia artistica la maglia e ho voluto dimostrare come le relazioni che si sono instaurate tra le creazioni di moda degli stilisti e alcuni movimenti d’arte contemporanea hanno dato vita ad un processo in cui l’osservatore può conoscere entrambe attraverso questo straordinario legame.
