I Cinque di Cambridge - Lo spionaggio ai tempi della Guerra Fredda attraverso un case study storico ​

The “information research” between the Thirties and Sixties of the twentieth century turns out to be an excellent lens through which one can know the methodology of espionage. The period under consideration is one that has seen several changes in international alignments, which in return led to a distrust that will be the heart of the Cold War. The paper aims to study the case of the Cambridge Five to gain a deeper understanding of the meaning that was given to the word “Intelligence” at that time. For the composition of this paper, historical texts, biographical texts and documentaries were consulted. The result obtained has the appearance of a story that, however surreal it may seem in certain passages, allows us to deepen the concept of “espionage”, not only in its direct meaning. In fact, the lives of the spies are the true protagonists of this paper. It is thanks to them that it is possible, also through a huge work of “collage” between the numerous collected information, to observe the event both with the eye of those who have an interest in intriguing novels and with that of those who, like myself, have adopted the event as an object of study.

La “ricerca informativa” tra gli anni Trenta e Sessanta del Novecento risulta essere un’ottima lente attraverso cui si può conoscere la metodica dello spionaggio. Quello preso in esame è un periodo che ha visto diversi cambiamenti negli schieramenti internazionali, che hanno portato a loro volta a ad una diffidenza che sarà il cuore della Guerra Fredda. L’elaborato è volto a studiare il caso dei Cinque di Cambridge con lo scopo di conoscere più approfonditamente il significato che, a quei tempi, veniva dato alla parola “Intelligence”. Per la composizione di questo elaborato sono stati consultati testi storici, testi biografici e documentari. Il risultato ottenuto ha l’aspetto di un racconto che, per quanto possa sembrare surreale in determinati passaggi, permette di approfondire il concetto di “spionaggio”, non solo nel suo diretto significato. Infatti, le vite delle spie sono le vere protagoniste di questo elaborato. È infatti grazie ad esse che è possibile, attraverso anche un grande lavoro di “collage” tra le numerosissime informazioni raccolte, osservare la vicenda sia con l’occhio di chi ha interesse verso intriganti romanzi, sia con quello di chi, come il sottoscritto, ha adottato la vicenda come oggetto di studio. ​
