Le Storie di Erodoto: figura del narratore e strategie comunicative

The present work of thesis offers a reflection on Herodotus' Histories, aiming to deepen the figure of the narrator through a linguistic analysis of the communicative choices. In the first chapter, I investigated the purpose of the work, analyzing the proemial expression ἱστορίης ἀπόδεξις, and then provided a brief history of the studies, focusing on various issues such as structure, composition, and ultimate purpose of the work. In the second chapter, I focused on the realms of action of the narrator, attempting to identify linguistic strategies and communication goals. Furthermore, some paragraphs reflect on the problem of Herodotean translations, and the perspectives introduced by conversation analysis studies in relation to the developmental context of the historical methodology of the work. Lastly, in the third chapter, I analyzed, from a metalinguistic perspective, the values of the use of δύναμαι and the nominal lexicon of the Histories.

Il presente lavoro di tesi propone una riflessione sulle Storie di Erodoto, con lo scopo di approfondire la figura del narratore attraverso un’analisi linguistica delle scelte comunicative. Nel primo capitolo ho svolto un’indagine interna agli scopi dell’opera, analizzando l’espressione proemiale ἱστορίης ἀπόδεξις, per poi tracciare una breve storia degli studi, incentrandomi su varie problematiche, come struttura, composizione e destinazione finale dell’opera. Nel secondo capitolo mi sono soffermata sugli ambiti di azione del narratore, cercando di isolare le strategie linguistiche e le finalità di comunicazione. Alcuni paragrafi riflettono, inoltre, sul problema delle traduzioni erodotee e sulle prospettive inaugurate dagli studi di conversation analysis in relazione al contesto di sviluppo della metodologia storica dell’opera. Nel terzo capitolo, infine, ho analizzato, seguendo una prospettiva metalinguistica, i valori dell’impiego di δύναμαι e del lessico nominale delle Storie.
