Buñuel e Almodóvar: la nozione di "osceno" in due grandi del cinema spagnolo

The notion of “obscene” is often identified as an offense to the common sense of decency, omitting the other meanings that the term can acquire. This work focuses on the different meanings of “obscene", particularly in the Spanish film production of Luis Buñuel and Pedro Almodóvar. In this regard, research questions like which meaning of “obscene” is predominant in the two film directors, where and how in their film this notion is expressed have been posed. In this work, the different historical periods and the cultural realities to which the Authors belonged have been taken into account, together with their filmography. Particular attention has been paid to analysising the films Tristana by Buñuel and ¡Átame! by Almodóvar. A desk study has been used to answer the research questions, summarizing and reformulating the content of the texts. In addition, the films have been analysed with the transcription of terms and expressions that have been considered “obscene”. Results show that, in Buñuel, the notion of “obscene” is mainly intended as something that is contrary to the catholic doctrine and morality. On the other hand, in Almodóvar the term refers to what offends the common feeling of decency, with particular reference to the sexual and erotic sphere. Consequently, this work aims at proposing new keys to understand the two films examined and to dwell on the deeper meanings that the term “obscene” could acquire.

Il concetto di “osceno” è spesso identificato con l'offesa al comune senso del pudore, tralasciando le altre connotazioni che il termine può assumere. Questo lavoro intende soffermarsi sui diversi significati del termine “osceno”, in particolare nella produzione cinematografica spagnola di Luis Buñuel e Pedro Almodóvar. A tal proposito, la domanda alla quale la ricerca si propone di rispondere è la seguente: “Quale significato di “osceno” è più presente nei due Autori? Dove e come troviamo manifestato questo concetto nei loro film?”. In questo contesto, sono stati presi in considerazione i differenti periodi storici e le realtà culturali di cui hanno fatto parte gli Autori, la loro filmografia ed è stata in particolare operata un'analisi dei film Tristana di Buñuel e ¡Átame! di Almodóvar. Per rispondere alla domanda della ricerca si è utilizzato un approccio compilativo, riassumendo e riformulando il contenuto dei testi. Si è, inoltre, presa visione dei film in questione operando un lavoro di trascrizione di termini ed espressioni considerati “osceni”. I risultati della ricerca indicano come in Buñuel, si definisca “osceno” principalmente tutto ciò che viene considerato contrario alla dottrina e alla morale cattolica. In Almodóvar il termine fa invece maggiormente riferimento a ciò che offende il comune sentimento di decenza, con particolare riferimento alla sfera sessuale ed erotica. Su questa base, l'elaborato mira a proporre nuove chiavi d'interpretazione dei due film presi in esame e a soffermarsi sui significati più profondi che il termine “osceno” può assumere.
