Adele di Federigo Tozzi: Storia di una nevrosi

In my interest is showing how the contribution of the philosopher and psychologist William James, turned the writing of one of the most famous writer of the Nineteenth Century, Federigo Tozzi, a moment of deep reflection about nature and soul, not only human, to contemplate in every single aspect. Considering as the subject of the study one of the first works of Federigo Tozzi, published posthumous in 1979, ¿Adele¿. Fragments of a novel, I retraced the path that conducted the writer to treat topics like ineptitude, will inhibition, and psychological block, habitual dresses of many of his characters created afterwards. Adele, specifically, the protagonist of this novel, has an hysterical and divided personality, and her existence is condemned to the inability of understanding the reasons of whom didn't want her to find and recognize herself in every aspect of the reality that revolves around her. ¿Only she gave importance to herself¿, is the end of the hypothesis of a novel that ceases with the suicide of the main character, a mysterious and inevitable act that surround the pessimistic vision of Federigo Tozzi's fiction, and the ineptitude of coping with a reality always more ¿crushed, if not crushing¿. Great importance has been given to the autobiographical factor: through a variety of literary filters Federigo Tozzi present himself and his most intimate conflicts, by originating stories and characters in many different narrative forms. At a later stage, I described how the writer followed the paths through the works of William James and how, referring to the studies, those influenced his activity indeed.

Nel mio interesse è mostrare come il contributo dello psicologo e filosofo William James abbia reso la scrittura di uno dei maggiori autori del Novecento, Federigo Tozzi, un momento di profondissima riflessione sull'anima e sulla natura, non solo umana, da contemplare in ogni singolo aspetto. Considerando come oggetto di studio una delle prime opere tozziane, pubblicata postuma nel 1979, ¿Adele¿. Frammenti di un romanzo, ho ripercorso il sentiero che condusse l'autore senese alla trattazione di temi come l'inettitudine, l'inibizione della volontà e il blocco psicologico, vesti abituali di molti suoi personaggi creati successivamente. In particolare Adele, la protagonista di questo testo, possiede una personalità isterica, scissa, la cui esistenza è condannata dall'impossibilità di comprendere i moventi di chi l'ha voluta incapace di ritrovarsi e riconoscersi in ogni aspetto della realtà che si muove attorno a lei. ¿Ella sola aveva dato importanza a se stessa¿, è il finale di un romanzo in frammenti il quale termina con un suicidio del personaggio centrale, un atto tanto misterioso quanto inevitabile che racchiude la visione pessimistica della narrativa tozziana e l'inabilità di destreggiarsi in una realtà sempre più ¿estranea e disgregata, se non disgregante¿. Grande importanza è stata attribuita al fattore autobiografico: attraverso una molteplicità di filtri letterari Federigo Tozzi presenta se stesso e i suoi conflitti interiori più intimi dando origine a storie e personaggi nelle più diverse forme narrative. Ho illustrato in seguito le modalità con cui Tozzi intraprese il viaggio attraverso le opere di William James e quanto, secondo gli studi, queste influenzarono effettivamente il suo lavoro.
