Come influisce sul mercato del lavoro la presenza di immigrati? L'impatto sui salari e l'effetto sostituzione

Immigration has always been a controversial and politically charged issue. During the years many scholars have faced this problem analysing the effect of the migratory waves, in Italy and especially abroad. In my thesis, I'm going to analyse the impact of immigration on natives' wages and the substitution effect between and within education groups. Following the paper written by Card (2009) as an example, I run different regression to provide an econometric analysis of the phenomenon. The results obtained are in line with the literature. The effect of immigrants on local wages is not significant and there is not perfect substitutability between immigrants and natives. Given this result, I can conclude that immigrants have a complementary effect and there is no direct competition with natives.
