Il cinema, fin dalla sua nascita, è da sempre stato il mezzo con cui si preferisce riprodurre le dinamiche di una guerra. Grazie allo studio di questa analisi, si è riusciti a trovare le principali contaminazioni della dimensione guerresca all’interno dei meccanismi di produzione cinematografici che danno forma ai film Hollywoodiani. All’inizio della tesi avviene una ricerca dei cambiamenti del cinema dal punto di vista tecnico finanziario e si nota che tutte le principali trasformazioni sono avvenute in parallelo allo svolgersi di un conflitto bellico; durante la guerra del Vietnam, per esempio, non solo cambiò il modo di riprendere il conflitto armato (grazie alle telecamere più leggere), ma si trasformò il testo stesso del film, in quanto si preferì porre l’accento sull’aspetto percettivo del conflitto e non sulla narratività della vicenda.
Essendo cambiato il modo di rappresentare la guerra, cambiò anche il modo in cui la società percepiva e immaginava uno scontro armato; non è un caso che gli anni Settanta in America furono lo scenario di intense proteste pacifiste.
Approfondendo la strategia mediatica messa in atto durante la guerra del Vietnam si notano delle somiglianze molto forti con alcuni fattori caratterizzando dello Star System Hollywoodiano. Per individuare queste similitudini viene usata una parodia dei film di guerra, il cui scopo è denunciare le incongruenze e le mancanze di Hollywood: Tropic Thunder ( Ben Stiller, 2008).
La Tesi si conclude mettendo in atto un paragone riguardo tre similitudini generali tra la guerra del Vietnam e le denunce messe in atto da Tropic Thunder: la costruzione del mito dell’eroe, la discriminazione razziale e la violenza umana.
Cinema, since its inception, has always been the means by which it prefers to reproduce the dynamics of a war. Thanks to the study of this analysis, it was possible to find the main contaminations of the war dimension within the mechanisms of film production that shape Hollywood films. At the beginning of the thesis there is a research of the changes of the cinema from the technical financial point of view and it is noted that all the main transformations took place in parallel with the unfolding of a war; during the Vietnam War, For example, not only did it change the way the armed conflict was filmed (thanks to lighter cameras), but the text of the film itself was transformed, as the emphasis was placed on the perceptive aspect of the conflict and not on the narrative of the story.
Since the way of representing war had changed, the way in which society perceived and imagined an armed conflict also changed; it is no coincidence that the seventies in America were the scene of intense pacifist protests.
Deepening the media strategy put in place during the Vietnam War, we can see very strong similarities with some factors characterizing the Hollywood Star System. To identify these similarities, a parody of the war films is used, the purpose of which is to denounce the inconsistencies and shortcomings of Hollywood: Tropic Thunder ( Ben Stiller, 2008).
The thesis ends with a comparison of three general similarities between the Vietnam War and the denunciations put in place by Tropic Thunder: the construction of the hero myth, racial discrimination and human violence.
