La presente ricerca si colloca nell’intersezione tra l’antropologia, gli studi interdisciplinari sull’infanzia e le teorie critiche sulla costruzione dei corpi. In particolare, attraverso il lavoro di campo e in costante dialogo con la letteratura internazionale, desidero esplorare come il tema della maternità venga promosso, rimodulato, costruito e narrato dai Centri Aiuto alla Vita, le sedi del Movimento per la Vita operative nei territori.
Rispetto alla letteratura secondaria esistente, questa ricerca mira a collocarsi fra quei lavori che analizzano le attività di sostegno alla vita in Italia, proponendo ed enfatizzando però la necessità di tenere insieme a livello analitico la dimensione nazionale con quella locale. Il mio contributo, pertanto, vuole dare rilevanza alla contemporaneità del territorio piemontese - considerando i mutamenti che lo hanno interessato e la legislazione inerente al sistema sanitario - mettendolo in relazione con quanto il Movimento porta avanti nella penisola. In particolare, vuole mettere in luce la realtà di un Centro di Aiuto alla Vita, l’unità locale operativa dell’associazione, nella sua azione di intervento a Mirafiori Nord, nella città di Torino.
Al centro di questa esplorazione vi saranno i discorsi e le pratiche di chi organizza e prende parte, mediante la propria partecipazione volontaria, alle attività organizzate dai centri. In particolare, le dimensioni che questo lavoro intende approfondire afferiscono alle concezioni sulla vita fatte proprie dalle volontarie operanti nelle sedi del contesto torinese. L’osservazione partecipante, condotta congiuntamente a interviste semi strutturate, mira a far emergere come i corpi di madri, bambini e bambine vengano anzitutto culturalmente concepiti. In tal senso, il valore e l’attenzione data dalle volontarie alle teorie scientifiche, specificamente alla biologia, verrà messo in connessione con le pratiche da esse impiegate per legittimare le attività perseguite e i propri scopi.
In conclusione, quanto emerso dall’attività di campo verrà arricchito mediante riflessioni alla luce di temi imperanti nella costruzione dei discorsi sulla maternità, la cura e la vita: paternalismo e razzismo.
The present research is located at the intersection between anthropology, interdisciplinary studies on childhood and critical theories on the construction of bodies. Through field work and in constant dialogue with international literature, I wish to explore how the theme of motherhood is promoted, remodulated, constructed and narrated by the Life Help Centers, the offices of the Movement for Life operating in the territories.
Compared to the existing secondary literature, this research aims to rank among those works that analyze life support activities in Italy, proposing and emphasizing however the need to keep the national and local dimensions together at an analytical level. My contribution, therefore, aims to give relevance to the contemporaneity of the Piedmont area - considering the changes that have affected it and the legislation inherent to the health system - by relating it to what the Movement carries out in the peninsula. It wants to highlight the reality of a Life Help Center, the local operational unit of the association, in its intervention action at Mirafiori Nord, in the city of Turin.
At the center of this exploration will be the discourses and practices of those who organize and take part, through their voluntary participation, in the activities organized by the centres. In particular, the dimensions that this work intends to explore relate to the conceptions of life adopted by the volunteers working in the offices of the Turin context. Participant observation, conducted jointly with semi-structured interviews, aims to bring out how the bodies of mothers, boys and girls are first of all culturally conceived. In this sense, the value and attention given by the volunteers to scientific theories, specifically to biology, will be put in connection with the practices they employ to legitimize the activities they pursue and their goals.
In conclusion, what emerged from the field activity will be enriched through reflections in the light of prevailing themes in the construction of discourses on motherhood, care and life: paternalism and racism.
