Il Machine Learning è uno dei sottocampi dell’intelligenza artificiale il cui scopo è quello di progettare macchine capaci di emulare l’intelligenza umana. Queste imparano dall’ambiente circostante presentato sotto forma di dato, la sua analisi diventa apprendimento quindi esperienza ed infine conoscenza. La tesi ha come obiettivo quello di studiare e confrontare tecniche di machine learning imparando ad usare strumenti statistici ed informatici per costruire un classificatore. Dopo aver analizzato e processato il dataset, verranno applicati i diversi algoritmi ed infine esposti i risultati ottenuti. Per giungere a questo scopo si risponde alla domanda di ricerca della tesi, ossia ottenere una previsione riguardo alla decisione ultima di un cliente: se questo sottoscriverà o meno un deposito bancario. Questa si baserà sui dati raccolti durante una campagna di marketing di una banca portoghese.
Machine Learning is one of the subfields of Artificial Intelligence whose main objective is to design machines capable of emulating human intelligence. These computer systems learn from the surrounding environment that is fed to them in the form of data which is, in turn, processed becoming learning, then experience and finally knowledge. The thesis aims to study and compare machine learning techniques by using statistical and computer tools in order to build a classifier. Several algorithms will be applied to the dataset previously processed and the final results will be exposed. The ultimate goal is achieved by answering the research question of the thesis, i.e. to get a prediction regarding a customer’s ultimate decision: whether or not to open a bank deposit account. It will be based on data collected during a Portuguese bank’s marketing campaign.
