L'obbiettivo di questa tesi è quello di fare un'analisi sul fenomeno della pirateria e sul famoso libro di Alexandre Olivier Exquemelin, The Buccaneers of America or The Pirates of Panama. A true account of the famous adventures and daring deeds of Sir Henry Morgan and other notorious freebooters of the Spanish main (1684). Attraverso le esperienze dei più importanti personaggi della pirateria, questo lavoro si concentra sulla diversità di tale fenomeno sviluppatosi nel continente europeo e nel Nuovo Mondo, ma si basa anche sulle originali avventure di un uomo che ha vissuto per numerosi anni a stretto contatto con pirati e bucanieri, Alexandre Exquemelin. Ho deciso di dividere la tesi in due capitoli. Il primo analizza la storia della pirateria in generale e raccoglie tre diverse tipologie di pirati presenti nel corso dei secoli: i pirati delle coste Barbaresche, i pirati inglesi e infine i pirati sparsi nelle colonie del Nuovo Mondo. D'altro canto, il secondo capitolo analizza la vita e le avventure di Alexandre Olivier Exquemelin che descrive nel corso del suo libro. Ho deciso di dividere questa parte offrendo prima un'introduzione della vita dell'autore, successivamente ho descritto la vita di due dei principali bucanieri del tempo da lui citati: François L'Ollonais and Sir Henry Morgan, infine ho analizzato la vita dei bucanieri, i loro codici e i pensieri del loro modus operandi. Per comporre questo elaborato ho tenuto in considerazione le opinioni di molti autori di libri su questo argomenti. in particolare le opere di Philip Gosse: Storia della Pirateria; Marcus Rediker: Outlaws of the Atlantic; Canaglie di tutto il mondo. The purpose of this dissertation is to comment upon Piracy and upon the famous book of Alexandre Olivier Exquemelin, The Buccaneers of America or The Pirates of Panama. A true account of the famous adventures and daring deeds of Sir Henry Morgan and other notorious freebooters of the Spanish main (1684). Through the experiences of the most important characters of piracy this work focuses on the diversity of piracy in Europe and in the New World but also is based on the original history and experiences of a man who personally lived with pirates and buccaneers, Alexandre Exquemelin. This dissertation consists of two main chapters. The first was designed to display the general history of piracy and it is subdivided in three different categories of pirates spread through the world: pirates on the Barbary Coast, English pirates and pirates widespread in the British and Spanish colonies in the New World. The second chapter analyzes the life and experiences of Alexandre Exquemelin described in his book. I decided to divide this part providing first an introduction of the author, then I considered two main characters of this age of piracy: François L'Ollonais and Sir Henry Morgan and in the end, I analyzed the life of buccaneers, their codes, their thoughts and their modus operandi. For this analysis I have taken into account many books and articles, such as Philip Gosse's book: Storia della Pirateria; Marcus Rediker's: Outlaws of the Atlantic, Canaglie di tutto il mondo.
