Nella presente dissertazione verrà analizzata la Pentesilea di Heinrich von Kleist. Il primo capitolo affronterà la biografia dell’autore, con lo scopo di analizzare gli eventi e le persone che hanno lasciato un’impronta fondamentale nella vita di Kleist e anche nella Pentesilea. Un capitolo viene dedicato alla figura della regina amazzone Pentesilea, trattando in particolare i due punti critici della sua figura, ossia la questione del genere e il conflitto tra individuo e ragion di Stato. Il capitolo successivo analizza la figura di Achille, il semidio greco e secondo protagonista, sulla base di fonti classiche. Infine, verranno analizzati i due personaggi nei momenti in cui entrano in contatto e le conseguenze di tali scontri allo scopo di capire appieno il perché dell’inevitabile tragico finale. L’ultimo capitolo è dedicato alla ricezione dell’opera da parte dei contemporanei e successivamente dagli autori e pubblico del Novecento.
The present dissertation contains the analysis of the Penthesilea by Heinrich von Kleist. The first chapter deals with the biography of the author, the purpose of this chapter is to analyse the people and the events that left a mark in the life of Kleist and therefore in the Penthesilea. A chapter is dedicated to the character of Penthesilea, the queen of the amazons. In particular, it focuses on the two critical points of her character: the matter of the gender and the conflict between the individual and the reason of State. The following chapter is an analysis of the figure of Achilles, the Greek demigod and second main character, based mainly on sources from classical literature. Then the two characters are analysed when they meet and fight, along with the consequences of those meetings. The purpose of this analysis is to get a better understanding as to why the tragic ending was inevitable. The last chapter is dedicated to the reception of the work, from both Kleist’s peers and later by the public and the authors of the twentieth century.
